Have you ever thought about becoming a Dog Trainer?

I am one of those lucky people, who follow their passion every day and it is also my job!

They say, that if you find a job that you love, you will never work a day in your life again! Well if that’s true, I haven’t worked for some years now 😉

I love being able to help people, and even more so, I love being able to help dogs. The beauty of this work is the diversity, and variety every day.

One day I may be helping someone with a dog that they can’t walk in public because of its Reactivity challenges, and the next I am helping someone who is preparing for a World Championship in a dog sport. I am so lucky, and I don’t ever take that for granted! If you are interested in becoming a dog trainer, here are some things to know:

– Dog training is ACTUALLY about people skills…. You can’t help the dog unless you can’t help the person, so being able to connect, empathise and communicate with people is a skill worth working on.

– Every dog is different, so be open to thinking outside of the box, and adapting your approach to suit the dog and the situation.

– People have different learning styles, so ensure that you are aware of how they communicate, and learn so you can help them understand. – Your pay is going to vary, depending on the time of year, weather and clients. Ensure you diversify what you can do, offer differently services, and create a sense of community so that people want to be part of that.

Surpass your clients’ expectations and always give them more than they thought they would get.

– Dog training and behaviour isn’t a 9-5 vocation, so be prepared to be flexible.

Create a work schedule around your life, and use your time effectively.
